** Beware ** Semi-spoiler alert if you plan on seeing the movie "Greenberg"
I don't know how I missed this little tidbit. When my roommate said he was going to see "Greenberg" tonight, I asked him WHO that was- I had never heard of the movie! But I probably should have known, since I seem to be the authority in my group on all things abortion related, and according to The Daily Beast, one of the main characters has an abortion. What makes it pro-choice? The plot is not centered around the woman's decision, and she seems relatively unchanged afterwards- physically and emotionally.
While of course, this is not the only way a woman could experience an abortion, this sort of reaction certainly is much more common than most of society would have us believe. That is what makes this portrayal courageous and refreshing (or at least, the idea of this portrayal).
I hadn't heard anything about this movie until I saw the Daily Beast article on NARAL Pro-Choice America's Choice in the Headlines feed. That seems odd. On the one hand, I want to shout from the rooftops that a movie has shown a true-to-life experience with abortion without feeding on the frenzy of the debate. On the other hand, I want to keep quiet because I am happy that people are not (as they usually are) trying to turn a normal life experience into a controversial issue.
If I do actually end up seeing the movie, I'll be sure to write up a review. It's playing at the Charles Theatre (and nowhere else of course in Baltimore).
